Santa Claus was good to you over the festive period, and now you are going to be saying ‘I do’! So what are the most important things to do after getting engaged we hear you ask?

First of all- CONGRATULATIONS!- This will be one of the most exciting times of your life, and you’ve came to the right place.

Once the initial shock of being engaged wears off (and you take a second to peel your eyes away from the ring!), you’ll need to start making decisions. Here are some of the most important things you need to do to really kick off your wedding planning…

Set a Timetable

The minute you get engaged, everyone will be asking for your wedding date. But in reality, you won’t be able to set an exact date until other major decisions  – such as choosing and booking a venue—are made. So, focus on determining dates that’ll work for you – think about what season you’d prefer.

Dream Up Your Style and Pick a Location

Imagine what kind of style and vibe you want to set for your wedding—and where you want to hold it. Is it a candlelit ceremony in a mansion or on a beach? Is it big or small,? Romantic or vintage?  Classic or rustic? Choose some venues to go and see and decide what you want.

Set Your Budget

Sit down with your families and figure out how much everyone is contributing to the big day that will determine other things such as size and venue.

Gift Register (Before Your Engagement Party!)

Don’t worry that it is too soon. With all the engagement parties, showers and well-wishing relatives, everyone will appreciate your foresight. Just tell everyone who asks where you have registered.

Insure Your Engagement Ring

The peace of mind that knowing your ring is insured will give you and your fiancé is well worth it. There are two basic ways to do it: As an extension of your renter’s or homeowner’s policy (which would reimburse you for a set amount of cash if you lose the ring), or through a company which specializes in jewellery insurance.
