Be King & Queen for the day in a fairytale Irish Castle


Ireland boasts numerous magical, fairytale castle venues which have proved popular with many famous faces and are perfect for your dream wedding too.

Golfer Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica married last weekend amongst the stunning backdrop of Ashford Castle. Set within 365-acres on the Mayo-Gaway border, and surrounded by stunning countryside, Ashford Castle, was refurbished in 2013, and some modern comforts were added to the five-star property, including a spa, swimming pool, a 32-seat cinema, a billiards room and cigar terrace. You can arrange for guests to enjoy clay pigeon shooting on the grounds or take a private boat trip to nearby Inchagoill Island, which boasts spectacular views of the lake and 800-year-old castle.

Rory and Erica aren’t the first celebrities to have married at Ashford Castle, indeed, when Irish-born actor Pierce Brosnan married Keely Shaye Smith in 2001, Ashford Castle provided the perfect backdrop for their Midsummer Night’s Dream meets the Secret Garden themed celebrity wedding reception. Like Rory and Erica reportedly did, they too had a fireworks display – a must to light up the skies and round off a magical, fairytale celebrity wedding!

Irish rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll wed actress Amy Huberman in Lough Rynn Castle in County Leitrim back in 2010.
