Ulster Rugby’s Stephen Ferris Ties the Knot

A romantic and emotional ceremony at Virginia Park Lodge

Rugby star and legend Stephen Ferris married his long-term love Laura McNally on Saturday in a beautiful ceremony at Virginia Park Lodge, Co. Cavan.

The wedding comes almost two years after Stephen, now a rugby commentator,  popped the question with a dazzling single-stone custom made ring on a romantic trip to Barcelona. A common love between the pair, is their passion for travel, as they had recently just returned from a ‘round-the-world’ trip following Stephen’s retirement, where they posted several snaps to Instagram of their time away together.

The wedding took place at Virginia Park Lodge’s Lavender Gardens, where Laura was walked down the aisle by her brother Gary. The ceremony was at 2pm followed by a drinks reception and music from Ricky Lorimer and Alan Logan, resident musicians at the Harbour Bar in Portrush.

The former Ireland international rugby player wed Laura on the 18th anniversary of the Ulster Grand Prix race that tragically claimed the life of her dad, making for an emotional day. The Belfast Telegraph reported that the groom choked back tears whilst reading his speech as he paid tribute to his bride’s late father and his own brother who passed at an early age.

The evening then followed with a five-course meal in Virginia Park Lodge’s Pavilion, by leading chef Richard Corrigan, a Great British Menu winner, who works for some of the UK’s finest restaurants, including Mayfair’s Corrigan’s restaurant. Guests were then treated to some live music from Northern Ireland band the Bentley Boys.

The loved-up couple met in Kelly’s Nightclub in Portrush five years ago, after being introduced by Laura’s best friend and bridesmaid Zoe Starrett, who is a girlfriend of former Ulster player Chris Cochrane. The bride had one other bridesmaid Robyn Collery on hand for the big day, whilst Stephen had his older brother David as the best man as well as two additional groomsmen.
