TV3 presenter Alan Hughes and long-term partner Karl Broderick have set a date for their wedding and will marry later this year
TV3 star Alan Hughes and partner Karl Broderick have announced they will get married on September 30th this year.
The date is a special one to the pair, as it marks the date they became civil partners back in 2011. The couple who are together for almost 22 years, threw a big bash to celebrate their civil partnership and are now planning a more low-key wedding with family and close friends only.
Alan told the Mail on Sunday:
It will be somewhere down the country and we are thinking it will be a smaller affair with family and close friends.”
Ireland AM star Alan popped the question in November 2015 live on TV, just one week after the Marriage Bill was written into law legalising same sex marriage. Alan and Karl were talking to Sinead Desmond and Mark Cagney about same-sex marriage and how things have changed in Ireland over the past 20 years, when Alan surprised his other half by getting down on one knee live on air and proposing. Alan said:
I’m really happy not only for us but for marriage equality and gay people in general that this week has finally come. It seems so long since the referendum and finally it’s come into law, now people can finally be married.”
