Stag’s on tour – Stag party ideas in Ireland and Beyond
Wedding Journal’s ideas for a stag do at home or away.
Having a stag do is an essential wedding tradition, and if you have watched ‘The Hangover’ the word terror comes to mind! But terrifying as it sounds to let your best man organise the event, you can always be sure of a memorable experience, either at home or away….
Ireland has some of the best stag locations in Europe and staying on home soil can make you feel a little more reassured!
The capital city of Ireland, Dublin is renowned for it Irish banter and for being an all round stag party destination with buckets loads of Guinness. What better way for you and the boys to
celebrate than with ‘Guns and Guinness’ every man’s passions. Start the day sober with a tour around the Guinness factory, then head off for a spot of clay pigeon shooting on the outskirts of Dublin before returning to the city in time to hit the many pubs and clubs this bustling city has to offer. It’s the little gems hidden around this city that make it what it is, from traditional friendly old city pubs full of locals sipping on pints and watching the rugby to the ultra modern big clubs like Lilli’s Bordello and the Button Factory, the city is diverse and alive, a perfect stag location.
Galway is an excellent spot for a stag party, built around its fabulous pubs, interesting locals and its chilled out coastal setting. Add to that a great social scene in the Eyre Square area and some great places to eat and drink and you have the perfect mix for a memorable stag.
The Oyster Festival in Galway is a great time to visit in September. Go along and enjoy the unique celebration of oysters, Guinness and craic blended with live music and much more.
If you’re more of a betting stag then a day at the Galway races is a must for a bit of adrenalin-pumping action. Situated on the outskirts of Galway City it is the place to be.
Belfast and the surrounding areas boast bucket loads of activities that will keep any stag party entertained. If it’s a bit of off road excitement that you’re looking for then some 4×4 off road driving or Honda pilot racing should do the trick.
Or, if you’re more the active adventure type and fancy getting wild and wet then activities such as zorbing, canoeing and dragon boat racing can all be found just a short journey from the city centre.
On dry land maybe opt for a spot of clay pigeon shooting, archery or paint balling all great stag activities to get the craic going and a thirst worked up for when the sun goes down. But before hitting the social scene in Belfast visit one of the many gorgeous restaurants for a spot of dinner to line the stomach before heading out on the rip!
Belfast has everything on offer when it comes to pubs and clubs in the city, you could do a pub crawl visiting very laid back traditional pubs to the ultra modern hip dance bars and then end your night in a sexy club for a spot of boogying if you can still stand! What ever you want for your stag Belfast has it all…
This is your last weekend/night out as an unmarried man so why not spend it outside of Ireland. Maybe choose a destination that you have never been to before and combine a party with some culture. Just make sure that the stag is planned weeks before the wedding in case of any incidents.
Price around well in advance and a stag do away could work out just as cheap as staying at home; after all you don’t want your mates out a fortune just for your final fling!
Newquay has become a hot party spot with young men who hit the surf by day and the drinking spots by night.
Only a short plane or boat journey away from Ireland and you arrive in Cornwall, where during the summer months you are guaranteed sunshine and great beaches. If you are a keen surfer then Newquay is the place for you with its amazing waves, but if not, surfing is a new and exciting activity to learn. After a day on the beach hit the long strip of bars and clubs and sip on chilled drinks while watching the sunset or the for the single guys in the group the local tanned talent!

A highlight for the Irish is the Royal Highland Show, which takes place between in June every year. It is a must visit for the farmers among you and a great place to have a stag party.
If sheep and tractors aren’t your thing then back in the city you will feel more at home taking part in your very own Highland Games. Why not become William Wallace for the day, paint your face blue and white, and don a kilt. Tossing of the Caber, archery, discus throwing, javelin hurling, tug o’ war, welly wanging, umbrella golf, shot putt, weight carry and haggis tossing…all these activities are set on the grounds of a beautiful Scottish Castle. If that doesn’t tire you out then a trip into the city centres bars and clubs sure will.
Want to be Arnold Schwarzenegger or Terminator for the weekend? Then Riga in Latvia, known as the European continent’s number one stag destination, is the hot spot for you.
In Riga you can experience what it is like to shoot a range of weapons from AK47’s, assault rifles to Magnums. Then after a day playing action man, strut your stuff in the buzzing town and experience party central. In Riga it is all about the guns the girls and the long summer nights, but with its cheap drink things could get messy…
What comes to mind when you think Las Vegas and stag party is the film ‘The Hangover’ – so it might be best not mention this to your future wife before you jump on that plane with your best mates!
Las Vegas is the ultimate stag party location, but it is expensive, so be aware of this before you hit your mates with the idea and a hefty price tag! If you can’t afford to head there on your stag it is also a very popular honeymoon location.
Vegas has it all – the bright lights, 24 hour drinking, entertainment galore, incredible casinos and non-stop fun from beginning to end. You could be in Paris one minute and the Bellagio another; the strip of hotels is like no other.
