Dare to bare in one of Fall 2016’s hottest wedding dress trends- the sheer gown.
While a wedding is reputed to be a family-friendly event, designers are breaking with tradition to offer brides a more risque option when they walk down the aisle. Namely, to go sheer.
This hot trend from Autumn/Winter 2016 catwalks is sweeping the nation and we can’t get enough of it. From exposed midrifs to completely see-through gowns, this style isn’t one for the faint-hearted and shouldn’t be worn lightly. That said, every woman should embrace the confidence to wear one of these striking gowns. Here are just a few of our faves…
Flash of Flesh
If your big day is a day-time do filled with hundreds of your nearest and dearest, chances are you don’t want to expose more flesh than necessary. Reem Acra’s two-tiered gown allows brides to go sheer on top but remain securely hidden from the waist down. Meanwhile Pronovias and Berta Bridal opted to go for sheer paneling and exposed sections as opposed to adopting the entire look.
Arguably one of the most provocative sheer wedding dresses this season, Vera Wang chose to further embellish her dress with fabric flowers and a waist-bow (set to be huge for dresses in 2017). For us, the best part of this dress is the incredibly feminine tulle skirt.
We’re not sure if bridal designers were watching a bit too much TV during their creative process, but there certainly is a hint of fantasy fashion in the sheer gowns for fall 2016. With geek-chic having its moment on the wedding scene, more brides are looking to mirror their favourite feminine characters as they walk down the aisle- Theia even went as far as to name their revealing dress ‘Khalessi’. Wherever they found their inspiration, we’re loving the futuristic drama of these dresses.
Show A Little Leg
It’s 2016 and men no long wear the trousers. Designers took the trouser-dress one step further this season by giving it a sexy, sheer edge. Lacey leggings were a favourite on the catwalk, but 70s-style wide-legs are just as impactful and everywhere right now (bridal and beyond).
Not only is this captivating number from Julie Vino completely sheer, its also BLACK- an off the wall choice for brides but perfect for a destination or themed wedding. But all that aside, its the thigh-high split we love which transforms this dress from ‘just another sheer gown’ to a seriously sexy one.
