Real Irish Wedding: 16th February 2013, Bewley’s Ballsbridge Hotel
Laura and James wanted an intimate wedding ceremony and reception in Dublin’s city centre and their search for the perfect wedding venue lead them to Thomas Prior Hall, Beweley’s in Ballsbridge.
“Bewley’s had the perfect combination of modern and affordable accommodation, and a beautiful, historic reception hall,” Laura explains.
Laura’s wedding dress was from Monsoon. “I tried on lots of dresses at many boutiques, and when I put on this dress, I felt like it was special enough for the occasion, but at the same time something I could be comfortable and feel myself in.”
James wore a grey three-piece suit and the groomsmen wore their own black suits and coordinated green ties.
Bravely, Laura let her four bridesmaids choose their own black bridesmaid dresses.
“It looked great on the day, and all the girls had a dress they were 100% happy with, and could definitely wear again.”
The beautiful wedding flowers were by Joy’s Flower’s in Ranelagh.
Laura’s bridal bouquet was a mix of anemones, spring roses, and lots of greenery. The buttonholes and corsages were freesia and fern, and James’s bout was budless, with berries and greenery.
At the reception, the couple had two cakes – a classic wedding cake made by a friend, and a cheese tower using cheese sourced from Sheridan’s Cheesemonger.
“The whole day I had this sense of calm wash over me, after being very nervous during the rehearsal (an American tradition) the night before!” reveals Laura.
“The ceremony was my favourite part of the day. We involved as many friends and family as possible, and had a really customised civil ceremony. We got lots of compliments of how meaningful, inclusive, and heartfelt it was.
“On the day, the thing that mattered most were the people who were celebrating with us; the rest of the details were icing on the cake!”
