Cupid, who also goes by the name of Kieran Field, played matchmaker to Laura and Johnny. “Our mutual friend Kieran introduced us when we were in UCC,” Laura begins. “Kieran spent months playing Cupid and his hard work paid off during Rag Week 2009!”
Johnny popped the question one cold and wet December day. “In West Cork on the shortest day of the year, December 21st, Johnny found that the perfect location to propose which is was where we were staying, in the amazing treehouse in Skibereen,” Laura recalls.
Laura was keen to marry in her home county and Corkman Johnny was excited for his family to visit lovely Listowel. “We have been to The Arms for several events, and it has always stuck out as a great venue, with lots of personality and detail,” Laura says.
“Both of us love the vintage style,” Laura explains, “coincidentally, that is what the Arms have as their theme also. We didn’t stick to this rigidly, but it helped lend a lot of timeless class to our day.”
Laura’s wedding dress was from Demetrios Bridal Boutique in Macy’s on Clark Street, New York. “This was the first dress I tried on,” Laura says. “While visiting family in Chicago, my aunt told me there was a fantastic bridal shop, Demetrios Bridal Boutique and she was right. I had not intended to buy anything until I tried it on and loved it. I wanted sometime very simple, classy and comfy and this worked really well.”
The groom wore a three-piece navy suit for the groom and the best men wore grey suits from Con Murphy’s in Cork city.
The bridesmaids wore skirts from ASOS, tops from Topshop, and necklaces from John Lewis.
“I love the wild flowers look. Eileen Fitzell who is based in Kilmoyley, Co. Kerry did a wonderful job and added such detail to the wedding flowers, everything down to the magic wand of flowers for our flower girl Meave,” Laura says.
The couple made their own invitations and add their own personal touch to the wedding booklets and other stationary.
Christine Girault from LaSpoon, based in Cork city created the macaroon tier. Cake Toppers Ireland made the cute cake topper featured the couple’s beloved pets Peanut and Buddy.
Johnny: “A toss-up between almost fainting when I saw Laura in the church for the first time and listening to the speech given by Kieran – who introduced us – which made me laugh and cry in equal measures.”
Laura: “The whole day from start to finish was amazing. From getting ready at home and the excitement beforehand to walking up the aisle and seeing everyone, then Johnny’s face at the top, it was all very emotional. An impromptu dance off with Johnny to Alice Cooper’s Poison was another highlight of a really fun night.”
