Caroline and Gavin met five years ago through mutual friends.
Gavin chose a date that was pretty significant in Caroline’s family, to pop the question – 20th July. “I proposed last year in our back garden,” Gavin explains.
“It was Caroline’s parent’s 39th wedding anniversary and we had Caroline’s parents and sister Alison over to celebrate.
Caroline and Gavin couldn’t be happier with their choice of wedding reception venue, and their experience is a great reminder of why choosing the venue that’s right for you is just so important.
“We fell in love with the Cartlon House when we were at the Irish Open and we found the staff were amazing with our son Alex,” Caroline praises. “We chose Carton House as the interior is just as spectacular as the grounds, and in April you can never be guaranteed good weather. Our wedding day turned out to be a beautiful day and it allowed for all our guests to sit outside and enjoy the gorgeous grounds. The staff in Carton House need a special mention – Fionnuala Townsend and Peter Walsh were brilliant to deal with and ensured our day was perfect for all of us.”
The wedding was themed around the three colours; silver, ivory and a dash of pink.
“While we didn’t have a wedding planner we liaised with Fionnuala and her superb team throughout the process,” Caroline says. “We also had Frog Prince style the room on the day.”
Caroline’s beautiful gown was by Raul Novias from The Town Bride. “I loved the flow of the dress,” Caroline explains.
“It was incredibly comfortable to wear and I simply adored the cowl back and diamante detail across the top of my back. I just adore the dress and would love to wear it again!”
Gavin wore a morning suit from The Formal Suite.
“We received superb service from Daniel in there,” Gavin says.
“The bridesmaids wore silver multi way Eliza & Ethan dresses which we bought in Coco Boutique. We bought these dresses before I had bought my wedding dress!” Caroline recalls.
The eye-catching flowers were provided by Day by Day Florists in Rathfarnham Village. “I had deep pink Calla lilies,” Caroline explains. “I knew that I wanted a bouquet that was easy to hold and I saw a picture of them in the Vera Wang wedding catalogue in the florists. They complemented the girls’ dresses and the boys, including Alex, looked great with their buttonholes.”
“Our wedding invitations and table names were made by Appleberry Press. We went for their ‘Sophisticated Style’ invitations in Ivory with black band and Fleur de Lis logo,” Caroline says.
The couple’s cake from BakeMyCake in Dundrum was a real showstopper. “We had three tiers; biscuit, red velvet sponge and lemon sponge,” Caroline recalls. “The tiers were iced with a beautiful Swiss dot and had blocking in silver ribbon between each tier, it was then topped with dark pink flowers. We had so many comments about the cake as it was simply beautiful.”
“I really enjoyed the trip from the church to Carton House. It was the only real time Caroline and I had to alone throughout the day.”
“Walking into my family church on my dad’s arm and seeing Gavin waiting at the top of aisle.”
“To future grooms, it is your day too – make sure you are involved in everything, it isn’t for everyone but I really enjoyed it (most of the time).”
“Try not to stress too much over the small things. Everything will work out in the end. Definitely buy wedding insurance – it is always good to know you have it just in case.”
