Irish celebrity chef, blogger and author Donal Skehan married his Swedish sweetheart Sofie Larsson in an intimate ceremony at Carlow’s Lisnavegh House.
The bride wore a round neck, full skirted wedding dress with beaded waist detail and accessorised with a veil pinned into a relaxed up do. Sofie bought her dress from a Swedish boutique and Donal’s navy blue suit was from Ted Baker.
The happy couple walked down the aisle hand-in-hand joined by their much-loved pet pooch Max. The Jack Russell/Border Collie was taken in by the couple as a recue pup and wore a little tux collar for the occasion.
Donal took a well-deserved break from the kitchen and enjoyed a relaxed, family-style dinner supplied by the Eastern Seaboard restaurant in Drogheda. Over 30 members of Sofie’s family travelled over from Sweden for the big day and joined a large gathering of the couple’s Irish family and friends. Guests included Donal’s former bandmate of Irish pop group Industry and her boyfriend UFC fighter Cathal Pendred.
The newlyweds first met in Donal’s local pub in 2006 through a mutual friend and have been together since. Donal popped the question in Paris just over a year ago, when he got down on one knee in front of the Eiffel Tower and presented Sofie with a vintage diamond solitaire from John Farrington.
The pair are on honeymoon in Italy and are travelling around Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi. You can still see the celebrity chef in action on ‘Kitchen Hero: Donal’s Irish Fest’ on RTÉ One every Thursday at 7pm. In each programme Donal travels to a different county, meets three small quirky food producers and prepares three dishes using the producers’ ingredients. Donal has just signed a two series deal with the Food Network and will be cooking in 12 European cities during series one.
