One million roses, a 12ft cake and a surprise celebrity performance

The lavish affair is hitting headlines around the globe for the sheer luxury and stunning opulence of the decor and styling. Alakija’s mother Folorunso is the vice chair of Nigerian oil company Famfa, and according to Forbes, she is thought to be one of the richest women in the world, worth a huge £2.1billion fortune, overtaking Oprah Winfrey as the richest woman of African descent in 2014. However, Folarin Alakija is a man with his own money, forging a successful career as an entrepreneur and cinematographer whereas his new wife Nazanin studied Bioengineering at the University of Manchester. The loved-up pair have been engaged since last year and hosted a traditional Nigerian ceremony in Lagos in November before hosting a lavish home wedding at the palace in Oxfordshire.

According to the Daily Mail, the magnificent wedding cost a cool £5million. The venue of Blenheim Palace, the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill, was decked out in fairy-tale like decor, fit for a king and queen. The palace was adorned with over one million roses in white, ivory and blush; designed by florist to the stars Jeff Leatham (who creates all the Kardashian’s floral arrangements for their homes and events, no less) creating an elegant and soft look for the reception. The day was full of intricate details that wowed guests, such as their carefully sourced menus including (e.g. foie gras, beef and crispy duck egg) or bespoke marble floors with gold embossed personalised initials. The event was attended by a host of celebrity guests including Victoria Secret Model Shanina Shaik.

The cake was a major talking point amongst guests, a grand 12ft wedding cake created by Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium. It featured eight tiers and was decorated with intricate iced flowers, doves and finished with fresh roses. It is estimated the cake could have cost in the region of £10,000.

Nazanin or Naz as known by close family and friends looked stunning in a classic strapless white ball gown, with structured skirt, train and a glittering diamond statement necklace. She completed the look with white Manolo Blahniks. The second look for Naz was a long sleeved lace sheer panelling gown, with her hair let down in glamorous loose curls for sharing the first dance in front of guests with her new husband. The couple had eight bridesmaids and flower girl who complemented the theme in pretty blush pink gowns.
