Celebrities and Hollywood stars have been heading to Cannes for the beginning of the prestigious film festival, which celebrates its 70th anniversary.
The Cannes Film Festival (17th-28th May) began last night with the opening ceremony gala, and the first night certainly didn’t disappoint in the style stakes. One particular actress that stole the show for us was 19 year old star Elle Fanning, who arrived for the debut of her latest film, Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Beguided’.
Elle wore a breath-taking strapless Vivienne Westwood couture gown that had a certain extra special feature about it. From the front, the gown looks effortlessly chic and beautifully subtle, with a draping bodice. However the back featured a cascading train featuring whimsical hand painted sketches and doodles. Amongst the painted artworks on the train were a unicorn, a shooting star, hearts, flower petals, squiggles and the planet Gaia- all hand painted in pink and signed by the designer herself-adding a unique and youthful touch to an elegant dress.

According to Elle Magazine, the corseted gown took inspiration from 17th and 18th century salon culture, and took more than 300 hours over 10 days to finish by hand by 10 people. Elle looked fit for royalty in the dramatic gown, complete with burgundy lips and a sleek ballet bun. This iconic bridal inspired look would be perfect for fashion lovers.
Vivienne Westwood- who as any Sex and the city fan will know- designed fashionista Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding gown for her nuptials to Mr Big (Before she got ditched at the alter!)- And we can’t help but compare Elle’s stunning gown to Carries. The gown that you admired from afar in the movie was a huge hit when the movie released in 2009, with replicas and shorter versions selling out within hours on net-a-porter.
