Drop waisted wedding dresses are back in a big way for 2016; mermaid or fishtail, trumpet, and fit and flare drop waists – here’s 37 stunning styles to inspire you
Fit and flare
Sometimes referred to as ‘drop waisted’, fit and flare styles hug the body and flare off around, or just under, the hip area.
These styles are great for petite ladies as they creates the illusion of a taller appearance. If you are carrying a lot of weight on your tummy area and feel self-conscious about it, this silhouette is best avoided in favour of trumpet, A-line, empire line, or peplum shapes.
Ballgown drop waisted styles are the perfect option for brides who want a modern day princess look.
Trumpet wedding dresses hug the body before flaring off mid-thigh. It can be thought of as a cross between an A-line dress and a fishtail. These dresses are easier to walk and dance in than a fishtail because your legs have a little more room.
This silhouette adds feminine curves to a boyish figure, and is a fantastic option too for fuller figured brides as it hugs you in all the right places and balances out the figure.
Fishtail or mermaid
Mermaid or fishtail wedding dresses are the most body-hugging of the three types and are considered the sexiest. A mermaid dress fits closely on the body until about the knee where it flares off dramatically towards the hem.
The mermaid shows off your shape well and looks great on hourglass-shaped ladies. If you have a fuller bust or wide shoulders a fishtail shape can balance our your top half to create the appearance of an hourglass figure.
