Speaking of top trends, we have looked at the key styles to look out for this year. 2018’s runway reflected fashion’s newfound appreciation for all things feminine, which resulted in an utterly dreamy, romantic, whimsical and shimmering flock of dresses taking to the catwalk. With sparkle and sheer reigning supreme, the A/W 2018 bridal collections feature some very exciting trends. From cascading capes, to feathered skirts, funky sleeves and colour like you’ve never seen before, you’re Pinterest board is about to get a WHOLE lot prettier following the beautiful gowns showcased at NYBFW. We can’t wait to see these trends on some real-life 2018 brides! Check out what to expect below…

Sparkle: Shimmer and shine added a touch of magic to bridal fashion for 2018, with designers such as Inbal Dror, Berta, Galia Lahav and Naeem Khan debuting their fall collections in NY. Glittering embellishment was paired with soft, romantic gowns, which brought a theme of femininity and chic fairy-tale glamour to the catwalks.

Bardot: Off-the-shoulder gowns were a key look amongst designers such as Ines Di Santo, Lela Rose, Mira Zwillinger, Inbal Dror, Marchesa and Naeem Khan during the catwalks, with some show-stopping creations. Featuring in both Spring and autumn 2018 bridal trends, wear this style on its own for a spring or summer wedding or  opt for a chic winter cover up in the colder months. From demure designs, to easy elegance and dramatic dresses, this trend is versatile and stylish.

Sheer: This trend was often paired with the trend of ‘sparkle’, with Berta and Galia Lahav combining their glittering gowns with sexy sheer illusions. Bridal fashion continues year-upon-year to push the boundaries, becoming sexier and daring whilst retaining bridal class and elegance. 2018 looks set to be no different, with designers featuring illusion panels for brides looking for something that little more edgy whilst celebrating sensuality.

Statement Sleeves: from the flouncy styles of Rime Arodaky, the 1980’s inspired puffball sleeves at Marchesa, the elegant lace sleeves at Galia Lahav or the billowing bell sleeves at Lela Rose and JLM Couture, sleeves are the way to make a bridal statement in 2018.

Powder Blue: Every season, there seems to be one colour that reigns supreme on the bridal catwalks for those who want to break away from tradition and show off their personality. After seasons of blush pink domination, soft baby blue has taken centre stage for 2018. The perfect way to add your ‘something blue’ to your big day, this pretty pastel tone has an element of ‘Cinderella chic’ about it. If you want to try this trend without going all-out, opt for JLM Couture’s subtle off-ivory whisper soft blue gown which is oh-so-wearable. Alternatively, Reem Acra’s regal brocade gold gown is the perfect statement dress for a fashion-forward bride-to-be.

Bold & daring: Whilst we have the soft and whimsical romance of the pastel blue tones, a contrasting trend has seen unconventional colours take to the catwalk for 2018. Not a trend for the shy and retiring wallflower, we’ve seen Yolan Cris, Ines Di Santo and Jenny Packham all unveil SCARLETT RED gowns down the runway. Another key trend is the use of BLACK, yes that’s right! Black is seen as the new white in bridal, from full scale Mortica Adams to delicate ballet black trim belts this controversial colour has featured in Vera Wang, Reem Acra and Marchesa.

Cascading Capes: Bridal fashion experts have been calling it the ‘wonderwoman’ effect, with capes having featured on the catwalks for the past few seasons; it looks like they’re set to stay for 2018! From the glitzy show-stoppers at Berta, the 60’s inspired coats at Lela Rose or the structured capes at Romona Keveza, these capes provide the perfect look for a 2-in-1 dress.

Fancy Feathers: Look like you’ve stepped off the stage in Swan Lake in one of these dazzling feather creations. This trend was ablaze in New York Bridal Fashion Week, with designers such as Halfpenny London, Savin London and Naeem Khan all showing off their plumage with nipped in bodices on the catwalk. Whether you want to emulate the 1920’s trend or you’re inspired by ballet beauty, lightly feathered gowns are glamorous and timeless.

Whilst these are the top trends for 2018, we are predicting trends of 3D floral embroidery, sparkling capes and art-deco inspired beading to feature heavily in bridal trends for 2019. Stay up-to-date with Weddingjournalonline.com and Ireland’s Wedding Journal magazine to discover more, including inspirational bridal fashion, the latest celebrity wedding dresses and what trends to expect next year.
