Wedding Journal chats to Michele Corty, creator of and designer for luxe bridal label Rue De Seine

Q. How did the Rue De Seine bridal collection come about?

A. Rue De Seine was created just after my own wedding in Paris. I couldn’t find any dresses that embodied everything I wanted…romantic, easy, and different. I then decided to make my own gown followed by my first collection for brides looking for that same feel.

Q. What would you say is the signature Rue De Seine look?

A. The signature Rue De Seine look is Bohemian Chic. Our vintage inspired silhouettes and handmade laces create that Parisian flair found in all of our dresses.

Q. How many pieces are in the 2014 collection and does it have a theme?

A. There are 20 pieces in the collection and it was inspired by floral gardens and the French countryside. Most of our brides are getting married outdoors, so the collection ties in well with their theme!

Q. What shapes dominate the 2014 collection?

A. High necks, A-line silhouettes, open backs, and dropped waist skirts.

Q. What are the key fabrics for the collection?

A. Cotton silk blends, light georgette, and heavier hand cut laces in Summery linen.

Q. Where are the dresses made and fabrics sourced?

A. We’re proud to say that our dresses are made in the Rue De Seine studio in New Zealand. Our team has worked in bridal for a nearly a decade and ensure that every gown is finished to the highest standards.

My partner and I have also traveled far and wide to find laces directly from northern France and work directly with factories on developing fabrics and designs unique to the brand.

Q. Do you think the feel and construction of a dress is important to a bride?

A. Yes! I believe that a dress should not only be beautiful but comfortable. Brides should be able to walk, breath, and dance the night away.

Q. How do you accessorise a Rue De Seine wedding dress?

A. We love floral crowns and feel that they complete the Rue De Seine bohemian look. We also accessorize our gowns with lace edged veils or pieces from our vintage collection for brides looking for something unique.

Q. Who is the Rue De Seine bride?

A. The Rue De Seine Bride is romantic, loves vintage, and is looking for something different on her wedding day.

Q. Who is your favourite iconic bride and why?

A. Bianca Jagger hands down. Her plunging YSL jacket and eccentric hat will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Rue De Seine is stocked exclusively at The White Gallery in Ireland. Prices for dresses in the collection range from £1,500 – £5,000.
