There’s been an influx in brand new Irish Wedding Venues and here’s Wedding Journal’s top choices…
Ireland might be small but it’s rich in wedding venues. Every week it seems like another amazing reception location has opened its doors, giving couples the opportunity to have a truly original celebration. This summer promises to be a very exciting year for new additions to the local wedding venue scene. Here we take a look at five new kids on the block that can offer you something different from anything that’s gone before…
Field of Dreams
We love a good barn style wedding venue. They have a rustic charm that’s ideal for a laid back bride who wants an informal, festival-style celebration in the height of spring or summer. Field of Dreams in Bangor is a barn style venue with a difference. The glass fronted Retreat building is a wooden chalet that looks out onto seven acres of outstanding countryside and a glorious lake. As you can see by the pictures, this place really comes alive at night time, creating an unforgettable party atmosphere for you and your guests.
Capacity: The Retreat can hold up to 100 guests. There is also a contemporary stone building, the Tober House which can hold 120, and there are various sizes of marquees which can be erected to give your day an outdoorsy feel.
Price: It will cost £2,700 to hire the Retreat or the Toberhouse, and an extra £700 to have the room dressed. Traditional canvas marquee prices start at £600 and the North American Tipee is £300. These prices include tables, chivari chairs and linen for up to 80 guests and a fire pit.

For many, their wedding day is a chance to celebrate with nearest and dearest, so intimacy is key. A venue like Drumhalla House is ideal for such an occasion. Being a superb private setting, this little part of the world is yours and only yours for the day.
Capacity: The house itself has 13 luxury bedrooms for you and your guests and, for the reception itself, a large marquee can be erected on site to accommodate up to 200 guests, within the atmospheric walled gardens, looking out onto Lough Swilly.
Price: Accommodation for three or four days, including the day of the wedding will be €4,000 for the main house and coach house. The cost of the marquee will be between €5,000 and €9,000, depending on guest numbers.

Virginia Park Lodge
This 18th century hunting estate is a grand and impressive setting placed within 150 acres of county Cavan countryside. Its secluded nature makes it ideal for a private and bespoke wedding and, as the former home of the Lord Headfort and his actress/wife Rosie Boote, the breathtaking interior will breathe grandeur into the feel of your big day.
Capacity: Virginia Park Lodge can cater from 20 to 200 wedding guests in its exclusive lakeside marquee and has guest house accommodation with the amenities of a modern hotel for up to 120 people.
Price: Wedding packages start from €69 per person. There is no hire fee, however there is a minimum spend which will be agreed with the events manager prior to booking.

Old Court Chapel
Old Court Chapel is an original little gem of a wedding venue on the shores of Strangford Lough. It is set within a private estate that has a 17th century chapel and restored stables to accommodate a ceremony and reception. The chapel is a spine-tingling and atmospheric listed building on a high wooded bank with views onto the fast-flowing waters. The stables too are absolutely charming and full of character. They can be decorated to your heart’s desire, but we think they look perfect just the way they are.
Capacity: The stables have an attached conservatory style marquee to comfortably seat up to 120 people.
Price: The price to hire both venues for the day is £5,000. This does not include catering.

Glendalough House falls into a new and increasingly popular category of wedding venue, called ‘dry hire’. This means that Glendalough is a completely blank canvas for your wedding day, to be customised entirely. This is perfect if you have an exact vision of your day or are hiring an exceptional wedding planner or room dressing team. The venue itself is a little bit dream-like. The private manor is encased in wonderful gardens and everywhere you turn, more and more wedding photograph opportunities present themselves. It’s paradise.
Capacity: Glendalough can host up to around 160 wedding guests in the Southern Wing Hospitality Suite, within its Fernary Dining Room and Childers Bar and Mezzanine.
Price: Glendalough wedding packages are especially bespoke. However, basic hire of the Southern Wing Hospitality Suite, accompanying a marquee in the main lawn will be priced at around €4,500.
