2015 Trend Alert: Metallic Wedding Dresses
Brand new bridal trend hitting the catwalks…
Sophie Hunter’s wedding gown is revealed and the bride wore SILVER- we can already see that metallic wedding dresses are going to be a huge trend this year!
Fans will have been sorely disappointed when no photographs of the fabulous merging of talented duo Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter followed them tying the knot on Valentine’s Day. Set in Mottistone Manor the day was destined to exude class and we were all dying to know what style the British fashionista had opted for!
After prolonging the teasing for over a month, Valentino came to our rescue when the fashion house posted an image to Instagram of the glowing actress at her final fitting. And there she is, the beautiful bride to be, twirling in a couture lace wedding dress, with long sleeves, high neckline, flowing train and it was completely silver! What a stunning choice it is; the empire line alludes to the baby bump and flatters Sophie’s shape in an effect which is graceful and timeless.
Take bridal style inspiration from Sophie’s medieval gown with a range of wedding dresses in gold and silver that have been hitting the catwalks, making metallic colours a massive trend for 2015! Metallic is the best colour palate to choose from for a bride that wants to stand out in a sea of white but also appear traditional!
Romantic weddings based on times gone by are still a huge trend for 2015 and a metallic sheath dress would be perfect to complement a Great Gatsby or Downton Abbey theme. Jenny Packham is the go-to designer where embellished dresses are concerned and she has metallic sheath covered! The intricate, gold embroidering on the Vera Wang sheath is figure-hugging but classic. Keep jewellery to a minimum but accessorise with an embellished head piece to really accentuate the shimmering metallic tones.
Mimic the timeless elegance of Sophie Hunter’s fabulous gown with a full skirted wonder. Metallic colours work really well on a full skirted wedding dress as they’re so versatile; opt for all over colour or an embellished bodice. The delicate silver tulle that skims the sweetheart neckline of the Sophia Tolli dress works perfectly as a subtle colour blend. For brides looking to commit to an all over colour, the embroidered Theia is the most similar design to the Valentino- and it has pockets!
Fit and Flare
Fit and Flare is designed to hug your curves to create a flawless silhouette and this style is perfectly complemented by notes of metallic for the ultimate glamorous look! Alfred Angelo added to his Disney Fairy Tale Bridal collection with an Elsa creation at the end of 2014. More silver than the original Elsa dress the sparkling accents create a dazzling yet sophisticated bridal look. Nude lace is a huge trend this season and Anna Maier channels this effect with daring gold fabric under exquisite lace embroidery.
Empire line gowns are a style that suits most body shapes but can often be quite simple in design. Adding tones of silver or gold can enhance the shape and create a dazzling effect. The Sotterro and Midgely dress is such a delicate shade of gold that would shimmer spectacularly for a Summer wedding. Imagine that sparkle catching the sunlight! The Elie Saab gown is a tantalising feast for the eyes with the full length sleeves and the layering of silver on top of gold. For a more classic style wear the palest shade of gold showcased in the Juana Mart wedding dress.
