Emirates report Irish honeymooners are choosing luxurious holiday destinations via Dubai and upgrading to business class travel.
According to research published by Emirates, the current trend for Irish honeymooners flying with the airline, is a two-stop holiday destination, usually involving a stopover in glitzy Dubai on the return journey, where the lure of your-round sunshine has huge appeal.
The honeymoon industry is booming and Emirates report a 34% increase in bookings, with Mauritius and Bali being the most popular destinations. In addition, an increasing number of Irish honeymooners are opting to go to Thailand, the Seychelles and Vietnam with their recently added route to Hanoi.
As Enda Corneille, country manager for Emirates in Ireland comments, ‘Emirates flies twice daily from Dublin to Dubai and from there, honeymooners can connect directly to idyllic locations across Asia, India, Australasia or Africa.’
Interestingly, according to the Central Statistics Office, the number of couples getting married in Ireland has stayed static at around 22,000, so the increase in bookings is unlikely to be related to a rise in couples tying the knot abroad.
10% of Emirates’ Irish honeymooners travel business class to enjoy added extras such as gourmet cuisine and fine wines, complimentary champagne, lie-flat seats, an airport chauffeur collection service, and a baggage allowance of 40kg.
‘The honeymoon is seen as the perfect opportunity to take that holiday of a lifetime and couples are making their budget stretch to cover luxury extras such as business class travel and our chauffeur collection service,’ adds Enda.
